Technical Guide: Transition from Test Pilot to ForneyLink TA-1258

Overview

The Test Pilot control system was a foundational technology used in Forney compression machines for many years. However, Test Pilot is now considered obsolete and is no longer supported. Forney strongly recommends upgrading to the ForneyLink TA-1258, our current-generation touchscreen HMI controller, designed to meet modern standards of accuracy, automation, and connectivity.

Why Upgrade?

Upgrading from Test Pilot or Co-Pilot to TA-1258 provides the following benefits:

Important: Forney no longer offers repair services for Test Pilot or Co-Pilot systems.

Replacement Solution: ForneyLink TA-1258

The TA-1258 ForneyLink Control System is a direct replacement for obsolete controllers and is compatible with most legacy Forney machines. In addition to replacing the touchscreen HMI, Forney also recommends replacing the Pressure Transducer during the upgrade for optimal performance and reliability.

Installation & Compatibility

The TA-1258 retrofit typically includes:

• Replacement HMI panel

• Updated wiring harness and power supply (if required)

• Optional ForneyVault configuration

• Pressure transducer replacement

To ensure compatibility:

• For Forney machines, simply provide the machine serial number.

• For non-Forney machines, have the Manufacturer, Model Number, and Test Capacity available.

• If you have a Pipe Tester, please contact Forney Sales for the appropriate replacement configuration.

Where is the serial number located?
On most Forney compression machines, the serial number is found on the metal data plate affixed to the machine frame, usually near the power switch or control panel.
