Technical Guide: Opening Forney Compression Machine Equipment Cabinet

This guide is intended to support remote troubleshooting sessions only when a Forney Support Engineer has requested assistance.

When to Use

This procedure is designed to support visual inspection or diagnostic steps as part of a troubleshooting session with Forney Technical Support. It should be performed only when requested by a Forney Support Engineer, as accessing internal components without guidance may lead to unintended issues.

Required Tool:

  • Standard 1/8” Allen wrench (for non-console systems)

  • Flat-head screwdriver (for console-based systems)

Procedure:

Remove Panel Screws (Non-Console Systems):
Use a 1/8” Allen wrench to remove the six screws securing the electronics panel cover, as shown:

Open Console-Based Systems:
For systems with console interfaces (e.g., models CA-0397, CA-0398, or compression machines with “-C” in the model number), insert a large flat-head screwdriver into the designated slot below the console to release the panel:

Access the Electronics Cabinet:
Once the panel is removed, you will see the internal components. Your system may vary depending on age and configuration:

Here is an example of a system with multiple options, which has a more complex panel:

Assist Forney Support with Inspection:
During the support call, the Forney Support Engineer may ask you to visually inspect or report on one or more of the following components:

Variable Frequency Drive (VFD):

TA-1270-30 Teco VFD

Legacy VFDs (Older Systems):

TA-1270-02 ADV20 VFD

Fuse Check:
The circled light will illuminate if the fuse is blown

RS-485 VFD Communications Filter:
May not be present on all systems.

Other Electronics:
Depending on your machine model and age, additional components may be referenced during the support session.

Reinstall the Panel:
Once the support session is complete, carefully reattach the panel using the same screws or method used during removal.

Important Notes:

  • Only perform this procedure at the direction of a Forney Support Engineer.

  • Do not attempt to diagnose or repair internal components independently.

  • A 1/8” Allen wrench is required for non-console panels.

  • Console systems use a flat-head screwdriver for access.
