Technical Guide – HMI Touchscreen Power Switch Replacement

This article outlines the process to replace the power switch on the ForneyLink HMI Touchscreen.

When to Use

Follow this procedure if the HMI touchscreen switch fails to start or shut down the touchscreen. Most Forney touchscreens are designed to auto-start when power is applied. A failed switch may require manual replacement.

Procedure

1. Remove Screws

• Using a suitable screwdriver, remove the 10 screws securing the top and bottom of the HMI touchscreen housing. Refer to the following two images for screw locations.

2. Remove Back Panel

• Carefully remove the back panel of the touchscreen.

• Cut any zip ties securing the power switch cable (see image reference).

3. Remove the Existing Switch

• The switch is mounted in the HMI frame using plastic locking tabs.

• Compress the tabs simultaneously to release the switch. Standard pliers work well for this step.

4. Record Switch Header Location

• Locate and visually confirm the switch’s header connection on the mainboard.

• Take a photo for reference. The header location may vary between touchscreen versions.

• Important: Incorrect header placement can damage the HMI touchscreen.

5. Disconnect and Replace Switch

• • Once documented, unplug the switch header from the mainboard.

  • Remove the faulty switch and install the replacement switch (P/N TA-1270-07-03).

6. Secure the Connection

• • Apply hot glue or RTV sealant to the mainboard connector to prevent loosening over time.

  • Replace any zip ties that were removed in Step 2.

7. Reassemble the Touchscreen

• • Push the replacement switch firmly into place until it locks into the chassis.

  • Reattach the back panel and reinstall the 10 screws.

8. Verify Operation

• • Return the HMI touchscreen to the compression machine.

  • Confirm that the new switch functions correctly.

Important Notes

• Always use HMI Switch P/N TA-1270-07-03 for replacements.

• Carefully match the switch header to the exact location on the mainboard as originally installed. Failure to do so may result in irreversible damage to the touchscreen.
