Technical Guide: Resetting the Opticon Barcode Scanner Configuration (ForneyVault Subscribers Only)

Applies to ForneyVault Subscribers using the optional Barcode Scanning functionality with the Opticon model scanner at the testing machine.

Purpose:
This article outlines the process to reset the Opticon barcode scanner configuration.

When to Use:

Follow this procedure if the barcode scanner is not detected by the ForneyLink HMI (touchscreen) software.


Procedure

  1. Connect the Barcode Scanner

    • Plug the Opticon barcode scanner into any available USB port on the machine’s ForneyLink device.

  2. Scan Configuration Barcodes

    • Scan the first configuration barcode.

  3. Verify Scanner Connection via Diagnostics
    • On the ForneyLink device, navigate to the Diagnostics screen.

    • Confirm that the Barcode Scanner diagnostic is present and green.

      1. If green, the scanner is correctly configured and ready to use.

      2. If not present, proceed to next step.

4.   Reboot the ForneyLink HMI
    • Press and momentarily hold the power button located on the bottom of the device display.

    • Release the button and wait for the device to fully shut down (Power LED turns off).

    • Once off, momentarily press the power button again to restart the ForneyLink HMI.

5.    Recheck Diagnostics After Reboot

    • Return to the Diagnostics screen.

    • Confirm if the Barcode Scanner diagnostic is now present and green.

6.    Still Not Working?

    • If the barcode scanner diagnostic is still not present and green, please contact Forney Technical Support for further assistance.


Important Notes:

  • This procedure applies only to customers actively subscribed to ForneyVault and using the barcode scanning option.

  • Barcode scanning enables the positive identification of specimens and enhances workflow integrity at the test machine.
