My labels are too dark or too light. How do I resolve this?
Users may notice that printed labels from a Zebra ZT231 appear too dark, too light, or faded when printing ForneyScan QR labels. This is typically caused by incorrect printhead pressure or an improper darkness (heat) setting.
This issue occurs when:
-
The darkness setting is not properly configured.
-
The printhead pressure is uneven or too high/low.
-
The media sensor or label alignment is off.
Resolution:
-
Set the darkness level to 30
-
On the printer display, go to:
Menu → Settings → Printing → Darkness -
Set the value to 30.
-
This setting provides optimal clarity and contrast for ForneyScan QR labels.
-
After setting the value, print a test label to verify print quality.
-
-
Adjust printhead pressure
-
Open the printer cover and locate the two green printhead pressure dials above the printhead assembly.
-
Make sure both dials are set evenly and apply firm, balanced pressure across the label width.
-
If the print is too light on one side, slightly increase the pressure on that side.
-
If the print is too dark or smudged, reduce pressure slightly and re-test.
-
-
Print and verify a test label
-
-
From the home screen, select Menu → Tools → Print Test Label.
-
Confirm the QR code and text are crisp, centered, and easily scannable.
