Technical Guide: Diagnostics – Travel Limit
If your Forney compression machine is showing the diagnostic “Travel Limit,” follow these steps to diagnose and resolve the issue.
Diagnostic details can be obtained by pressing the Diagnostics button from the main screen.
1. The Overtravel Limit, also known as the Limit Switch, is a crucial component in compression machines designed to prevent the piston from extending beyond its safe limits. Typically, this switch activates when the piston reaches an extension of approximately two inches, effectively stopping any further movement to avoid potential damage.
2. The Travel Limit switch may require adjustment. Please see this article to check limit switch. Verifying Overtravel Limit Protection and Proximity Sensor Installation
3. If the Travel Limit diagnostic is present with “Drive Comm” diagnostic, the Drive Comm diagnostic takes priority and must be addressed first. Technical Guide: Diagnostics – Drive Comm
4. The wire from the limit switch to the equipment cabinet may be damaged.
5. For Console systems (CA-0397, CA-0398) there is a twist-lock connector. Please check that this connector has not come loose. Please see CA-0397 Installation Guide for more details. Forney Retropak® CA-0397 Installation Guide
6. Lastly, the limit switch may have malfunctioned and require replacement. This is not common and all other causes should be ruled out first. Please contact Forney support to determine the correct limit switch part number.
