Applies to F and FHS Series Compression Testing Machines
Overview: The TA-0166 Flexural Beam Accessory is designed to measure flexural strength and determine the modulus of rupture in 6x6 inch (152x152 mm) concrete beams. Compatible with Forney Compression Testing Machines, the accessory allows for adjustable beam spans from 12 to 30 inches (305 to 762 mm), with center or third-point loading.
Components:
-
Upper Breaking Head with Holding Stem
-
Lower Flexural Assembly with Bearing Points
- Centering Pin (or optional bolt, depending on machine model)
Installation Instructions:
-
Preparation:
-
Ensure the machine is powered off and any testing components are removed.
-
For F-250 and F-325 models, remove the lower working platen from the machine. This will reveal a centering pin hole in the machine base. For all other machine models, the TA-0166 will rest on the lower platen.
-
-
Install the Upper Breaking Head:
-
Insert the Holding Stem of the upper breaking head into the upper cross head of the machine.
- Note - on the F-250 model, the holding stem is inserted into the piston.
-
Secure the breaking head in place by tightening the set screw using the supplied Allen key.
-
-
Position the Lower Flexural Assembly:
-
For F-250 and F-325 models:
-
Align the centering hole in the lower flexural assembly with the centering pin hole exposed on the machine base.
- Insert the provided centering pin to ensure alignment between the upper and lower components.
-
- For all other machine models, the supplied dowel pins are used to center and hold the assembly in place.
-
Note: On some machine models, the pin hole may be too deep for the standard centering pin. In this case, use a bolt of appropriate length and diameter to maintain alignment.
-
-
Final Checks:
-
Confirm that the upper and lower components are aligned vertically.
-
Verify that the assembly is stable and securely installed.
-
Adjusting for Beam Size:
-
The lower flexural assembly includes mountings for 12", 18", 24", and 30" bearing points.
-
Adjust the anvils to match the desired beam span.
-
Refer to the provided assembly drawing for detailed adjustment instructions.
Safety Note: Always ensure the accessory is installed correctly before initiating a test. Misalignment can result in inaccurate test results or equipment damage.
Reference: An assembly drawing is available with this article to assist with proper setup and anvil adjustments for beam sizes other than 6x6 inches.
