How Do I Perform A Cylinder Compression Test (ASTM C39) On A Forney Test Machine?

  1. Prepare the cylinder to be tested according to the ASTM C39 test method. 
  2. Enter your specimen's measurements (Average Diameter and Average length), Submerged Weight, and Correction Factor, if needed.

  3. Place the specimen in your test machine. 
  4. The Preload and Ramp Rate values can be changed according to ASTM C39 guidelines. 



  5. Taring the machine will ensure accurate results. Press and hold the Jog Advance button to close the "daylight" between the specimen and the breaking head. 

  6. Press the Load Button to tare the load prior to testing. 



  7. Press Start Test to begin the test. 



  8. Once completed, you can just select the ASTM C39 break type and enter any needed remarks. 



  9. The test is now complete and ready for the next specimen.

  1. Prepare the cylinder to be tested according to the ASTM C39 test method. 
  2. Enter your specimen's measurements Average Diameter and Average length), Submerged Weight, and Correction Factor, if needed.



  3. Place the specimen in your test machine. 
  4. To ensure the accuracy of your results, it is essential to tare the machine. Carefully advance the hydraulic piston until the specimen is nearly in contact with the breaking head, ensuring that they do not touch. Press the Load Button to tare the load. 

  5. Press Start Test to begin the test. 



  6. During the test manage the Loading Rate within ASTM C39 specifications.



  7. Once completed, select the ASTM C39 break type and enter any needed remarks. 



  8. The test is now complete and ready for the next specimen.
