Determining Gauge Length and Correction Factor Settings for ASTM C469 MOE Test.

This article will guide you in measuring the gauge length and correction factor for ASTM C469 Static Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) and Poisson’s Ratio of concrete in compression using your compressometer/extensometer setup.

Compressometer_Extensometer Measurements

4” x 8” Cylinder Measurement Example

  • Channel 1 (MOE) Gauge length = C = 5.25”
  • Correction factor = (A/(A+B)) = 0.5 typically for Forney accessory
  • For Channel 2 (Poisson’s Ratio), the Gauge Length is the specimen diameter = D = 4”
  • Correction factor = (E/(E+F)) = 0.414 typically for Forney accessory

6” x 12” Cylinder Measurement Example:

  • Channel 1 (MOE) Gauge length = C = 8”
  • Correction factor = (A/(A+B)) = 0.5 typically for Forney accessory
  • For Channel 2 (Poisson’s Ratio), the Gauge Length is the specimen diameter = D = 6”
  • Correction factor = (E/(E+F)) = 0.444 typically for Forney accessory
